Stars Commit to 2027 Australian Open One-Point Slam
The Australian Open on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, locked in Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka for its 2027 1 Point Slam, a knockout event with a A$1 million winner’s prize. Matches are decided by one point, and Rock, Paper, Scissors determines who serves or receives. The final is set for Jan. 13, 2027 at Rod Laver Arena, ahead of the main draw from Jan. 17 to 31. Chief tennis officer Tom Larner said having those stars locked in alongside everyday Australians qualifying through local competition and State Championships "captures exactly what this event is about, bringing people together through tennis in an exciting and inclusive way." He called the AO 1 Point Slam "unlike anything else in world sport." Amateurs will come from eight state championship rounds and eight qualifying spots. The champion will receive a trophy crafted from Australian silver. Sydney amateur Jordan Smith won the 2026 contest and A$1 million after beating Sinner and Amanda Anisimova, then Joanna Garland in the final. Sinner has not played since winning Wimbledon and announced he will not compete again in 2026 due to a knee injury. More than 1.3 million fans attended the 2026 Australian Open; organizers plan increased capacity for 2027.
