States Sue EPA Over Power Plant Emissions Repeal
A coalition of 21 states, including Pennsylvania, and several cities is challenging the EPA’s repeal of greenhouse-gas limits for coal- and natural-gas-fired power plants, arguing the rollback could increase pollution and harm public health and the climate. The EPA has defended the move as a way to reduce costs for the energy industry and give utilities more flexibility. Separately, property owners and environmental advocates in Muncy Township are suing over Pennsylvania planning-code provisions they say conflict with constitutional environmental protections and other rights, amid a dispute over a proposed data center campus and the township’s pause on reviewing such projects. The cases reflect broader battles over environmental regulation and the rules governing major development in Pennsylvania.
