Texas Philanthropist Joe Long Dies at 96
Texas lawyer and philanthropist Joe R. Long, who died at 96, helped expand educational, health care and arts opportunities through decades of giving with his wife, Teresa Lozano Long, who died in 2021. Their gifts supported scholarships, medical research and faculty at UT Health San Antonio, and their major contributions helped establish the Long School of Medicine and the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Austin. The couple also funded scholarships for Hispanic students and supported programs across the University of Texas at Austin, including Latin American studies, the arts, law and education. Long served in the Korean War, built a career in law and banking, and later devoted much of his time to philanthropy. Friends and institutions remembered him for his generosity and the lasting opportunities it created for students and communities across Texas.
