Amber Guyger Granted Parole After Seven Years in Botham Jean Murder
The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles approved former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger for release after she served about seven years of a 10-year sentence for murdering Botham Jean in his apartment in 2018; the release date remains unclear. The board cited her prison conduct, lack of a documented pattern of violent offenses, and completion of rehabilitation and employment programs. Jean’s family opposed parole and expressed disappointment, while supporters honored him at a Dallas candlelight vigil near what would have been his 35th birthday. Guyger’s attorney said she has arranged a job and a place to live, and parole is expected to include close supervision and restrictions.
