Teasley Pleads Guilty in Phoenix Murder, Avoids Death
Zion Teasley pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the 2023 killing of Lauren Heike, who was found stabbed 15 times on a north Phoenix hiking trail. Investigators linked Teasley to the crime through DNA and other forensic evidence, including cellphone location data. Under the plea agreement, he faces life in prison, and prosecutors will drop their notice to seek the death penalty; sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 4. Teasley also pleaded guilty in a separate child sexual exploitation case, while assault and burglary charges connected to another case will be dismissed. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for Heike’s killing.
