Waterloo Reports Two Shootings, One Fatal
Two separate shootings were reported in Waterloo, Iowa, on Oct. 8. In the morning, police say 16-year-old Zavyaire Jordan fired at a home on Ash Street; no one was hurt, and officers later arrested him and found a gun they say matched shell casings from the scene. Jordan faces charges including intimidation with a dangerous weapon. That afternoon, a man was fatally shot near West Third and Baltimore streets; responders took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police arrested 16-year-old Jose Kweli Martinez and charged him with intimidation with a dangerous weapon and interference with official acts with a firearm; the victim’s identity has not been released while authorities notify his family. Investigators have not said whether the fatal shooting is connected to the killing of 17-year-old Owen Cannon in the neighborhood less than two weeks earlier.
