About Assad family

The Assad family ruled Syria from 1970 until Bashar al-Assad was ousted on 8 December 2024. Hafez al-Assad became president in 1971 after a sham election and ruled until his death in 2000. He was succeeded by his son, Bashar, who maintained a similar grip on power until 2024.
