A sudden flash flood on Nepal’s Budhi Gandaki River swept away homes, bridges and market structures in northern Gorkha, with preliminary reports putting the number of destroyed houses as high as 35. Authorities suspect a landslide or blocked river channel triggered the surge, are evacuating residents and conducting helicopter-assisted rescue and relief operations; no deaths have been confirmed.
