The Boston Red Sox traded left-hander Connelly Early to the Washington Nationals for infielder Curtis Mead in a Deadline-season swap, with Early headed to D.C. while Mead has been enjoying a career year for the Nationals, posting strong power and run production; reporters describe the move as addressing each team’s needs ahead of the deadline. The deal is corroborated by multiple outlets, noting Early’s 3.44 ERA over 17 starts and Mead’s .256/.351/.505 line with 17 home runs in 86 games this season.
