Linda Ronstadt

Madonna Covers La Bambola, Debuts No.2 World Chart

Across the late 1960s to the 1970s, breakthrough records reshaped careers and gender norms: Patty Pravo’s La Bambola became a feminist-tinged international hit after initial rejection, while Status Quo’s Pictures of Matchstick Men launched the band into international fame, signaling the era’s psychedelic-prog breakthrough. Linda Ronstadt then bridged genres and turned covers into defining moments with hits like When Will I Be Loved, You’re No Good, and Poor Poor Pitiful Me, illustrating how a transformative vocalist could reinvent songs and expand a singer’s reach.
