Four killed in wrong-way I-40 crash
Four people, including three Hawaii residents, were killed when a westbound commercial truck crossed the median of Interstate 40 near Gallup, New Mexico, and struck an eastbound passenger car and another truck. The victims in the car were identified as Wayne Viveiros, 68, Luana Viveiros, 51, and Lilinoe Viveiros, 22; the driver of the truck that crossed the median also died. The second truck’s driver was hospitalized with injuries and is expected to survive. New Mexico State Police determined the wrong-way truck driver caused the crash, which remains under investigation. Luana Viveiros worked at Waialua High and Intermediate School, and support efforts were organized for the family and affected school community.
