Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting of Kentucky Trooper
Tennessee resident Emonnie Branch, 51, was arrested in Louisville and charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips during a traffic stop on Interstate 65 in Warren County. Authorities say Branch fled after the shooting and was arrested roughly 95 miles away; a judge denied him bail at his arraignment. Branch was wanted in Tennessee on an alleged probation violation tied to prior fraud-related convictions, with court records also citing alleged failed drug tests and unpaid restitution. Phillips, 30, was a three-year department veteran and left behind a wife and three children. Investigators have not said why Phillips stopped the vehicle or what led to the shooting; a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
