Detroit Father Held After 11-Year-Old Shot by Sibling
An 11-year-old was shot in the face by a sibling who found an unsecured handgun in their father’s Detroit west-side home on Oct. 7. The injured child and siblings, ages 9 and 4, were home alone when the shooting occurred on Artesian Street; reports initially described the 11-year-old as critical, while a later update said he was stable and improving after surgery. Police confirmed the children’s 38-year-old father was taken into custody, but authorities had not publicly detailed the reason or confirmed charges. Police Chief Todd Bettison called the shooting preventable and urged gun owners to secure firearms, while local stakeholders distributed gun locks in the neighborhood.
