Polls Show El-Sayed Ahead in Michigan Senate Race
Michigan’s open U.S. Senate race remains competitive, with polls showing different snapshots of the contest: a Mitchell Research survey puts Democrat Abdul El-Sayed ahead of Republican Mike Rogers, 45.6% to 41.4%, while an earlier Marist poll showed a wider 51% to 44% lead. The Mitchell poll found El-Sayed ahead among independents and absentee voters, while Rogers held a slight edge among voters who said they would definitely vote; its margin of error is 3.8 percentage points. Despite his primary win, El-Sayed faces concerns from some Democratic leaders that he has not done enough outreach to Black and Jewish voters who supported his primary opponent, and that his confidence may risk taking key constituencies for granted. Supporters, including Rep. Debbie Dingell, say the campaign must continue engaging every demographic as Election Day approaches.
