Renee Good’s Family Sues US Over Minneapolis Killing
Renee Good’s partner, Becca Good, and her brother, Brent Ganger, have filed two federal lawsuits over the 37-year-old mother of three’s fatal shooting by ICE agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis on Jan. 7. One suit seeks damages from the United States under the Federal Tort Claims Act, alleging wrongful death, excessive force, negligence and related misconduct; the other accuses Ross and senior and former Trump administration officials of conspiring to violate civil rights. The family alleges Good was unarmed and turning her vehicle away when Ross fired; the administration says Ross acted in self-defense and has characterized Good’s actions as domestic terrorism, accounts disputed by her family and witnesses. The White House called the lawsuits baseless and said it would vigorously defend against them. Good’s killing sparked protests and intensified criticism of the administration’s immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis.
