Abbott to Skip Trump’s San Antonio Rally

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will skip President Donald Trump’s San Antonio rally because of previously scheduled campaign events in Jasper and College Station. Abbott is facing a closer-than-expected reelection contest, with a New York Times/Siena poll showing Democrat Gina Hinojosa ahead 49% to 46%. Abbott praised Trump’s ability to energize and turn out Republican voters. Trump is visiting Texas for the third time in less than a month to support GOP candidates, including Senate hopeful Ken Paxton, amid concerns about his political standing and competition in traditionally Republican territory.
